Founding the Turnpike Press

The Turnpike Press was founded in 2017 by social entrepreneur and non-fiction author Robert Ashton. Since 2001 he’s had 19 books published. They’ve sold around the world. As a Quaker, he’s committed to playing his part in making the world a better, fairer place.

Over the past 25 years Robert’s activism has prompted the formation of a grant-making foundation and secured more than £10m to build a new complex needs school. In 2013 he founded Swarm Apprenticeships, to create new opportunity for bright young people who have slipped through the mainstream education net.

Robert lives and works at Turnpike Farm, close to the tablet erected to commemorate Sir Edwin Rich’s philanthropy. The Turnpike Press office is based on the farm. It employs a small team of professionals who share Robert’s conviction that the right books can change the world.
